Miami Herald: Life Pointe Pays for Gas As It Woos New Members

Church pays for gas as it woos new members

Not much is traditional at Life Pointe Church in Homestead, which is giving away $10 gas vouchers to first-time visitors. If you've been praying for a miracle to ease high gas prices, there's a place that might come close to delivering.

Well, sort of.

Life Pointe Church of Homestead is trying to attract new members by handing out $10 gas vouchers to first-time visitors at Sunday services through the end of October.

Since Sept. 11, the church has given away five of the vouchers, which can be used at a nearby gas station. The money comes from offerings from the congregation of 200. The church is at 1100 Old Dixie Hwy.

Awesome Travis! This article will probably get you more attention than the gas vouchers themselves! Sounds like a great church. I gotta admit though, I cannot quite figure out how to sing Amazing Grace to that tune!

Keep up the great work man!

You should have seen the picture on the front page of the South County Neighbors section...and the picture inside, too. Nice.

While buying my paper, I had an opportunity to invite a sales clerk at Publix (showed her the picture), and expect to see her here this Sunday.

I still haven't seen the pictures. I've heard that the picture of Joel, Lilli, and me is on the front page. Ana made us pose for the article giving them their voucher...felt cheesey.

By the way, Joel and Lilli seem really cool. You guys have to get to know them. Also, keep on inviting folks! We have this incredible gift, an answer to life's questions. Most people don't know about this gift, Christ. Let's tell them and have a great time in the process!

Thanks guys for building a church family the Herald would want to write about.

This is really cool Pastor Travis,
I really hope you get some new members from this! We should all be thinking of new ways for community outreach- looks like you have found a successful one.

God bless you!

Darrell,

We have a great church...some of the best people in the world, minus a few trouble makers who are around to keep me square. Also, "Peaceful Easy Feeling?" just slow down and sing the verses to Amazing Grace everything else to the Eagles. It will make all your old rockers happy...I think the Lord smiles a bit too.

Thanks Henry. Where are you in the Charlotte area? I have a ton of family in Kannapolis...love it there.

Pastor Travis, I'm actually closer to the city of Matthews NC. I pastor a church in Wingate, NC which is about 25 miles east of Charlotte. It's a newly planted church (2 years old).

I don't know too many folks in the Kannapolis area besides an independent baptist preacher named Garland Faw. I think he's actually in Landis, NC though....ok- too much information I'm sure-LOL

The trouble makers need no mentions because they are the ones doing all the talking. By the way, Ivan and Ela, it's always good to see you on here all the time! ;)

Fabulous idea! I'd attend your church if I lived in South Florida.

Thanks, Stephen. You wouldn't be the first Con in our church. (or is that Conn?) ;)
